Wrestling: Exeter vs Cedar Cliff 

Exeter won eight straight bouts Saturday afternoon at Milton Hershey to defeat previously unbeaten Cedar Cliff 32-27 and earn its first District 3 Wrestling Team Tournament title.

The second-seeded Eagles (22-1) won two bouts by one point and another in overtime during the streak to defeat the Colts (19-1) and become the first Berks County team to win the Class 3A title in 16 years.

After Cedar Cliff scored a fall in the first bout at 126 pounds, Exeter scored 32 straight points in the next eight bouts. It was just enough to hold off Cedar Cliff heading into the strength of its lineup.Austin DeSanto received a forfeit at 132 to start the run before Justin Landis won an 8-7 decision at 138 Gage Moran returned to the lineup and scored an 11-4 decision at 145 to keep Exeter rolling.

At 152, Exeter coach Jon Rugg inserted Matt Ward and he came through with a fall in 5:58 to give Exeter an 18-6 lead.
It also allowed the Eagles to bump up the rest of the wrestlers. Tyler Harkness scored a late takedown to force overtime, then got another takedown in overtime for a 9-7 win at 160.

 

Tyler Borton followed with a 9-6 win at 170 and Tyler Bagoly scored a technical fall at 182.
Nolan Buck ended the run with a 6-5 decision that gave Exeter a 32-6 lead.

Cedar Cliff won the last five bouts but it wasn't enough to overcome Exeter's lead.
