WYOMISSING, PA;
Through all the graduation losses, there have been two constants during Exeter's time atop the Berks Wrestling League - hard work and Dennis Karas.
With more than half of his lineup filled with new starters this season, coach Jon Rugg never changed his expectations; not even with the loss of more than 20 seniors over the past two seasons. "I think the big thing this year is the kids worked just as hard," Rugg said. "This group of seniors was always behind them and never really got the opportunity to show how good they really were."
Exeter flexed its muscle Friday at Wyomissing, defeating Hamburg 47-16 to capture its third straight BCIAA Team Tournament championship.
The Eagles (14-5) also downed Reading High 46-15 in the semifinals. Overall, Exeter won 21-of-28 bouts in the two matches.
Karas had two of those victories, a pair of first-period falls at 220 pounds to give him 100 career pins.
"Coming here to be three-time county champ and then doing that on top of it, you really can't ask for anything more," Karas said.
