Exeter Rallies in 2nd half to win decisively over Conrad Weiser, 31-7.
Reiffton, PA - Coming into Friday's game, Exeter quarterback Brandon Unterkoefler admitted that he and his teammates might've been a little too excited to face Conrad Weiser. After all, it was homecoming in Reiffton and the Eagles are fighting for a district playoff berth.
But it didn't look good when the Scouts pitched a first-half shutout against one of the highest-scoring offenses in Berks.
The second half was a different story, as the Eagles regained their focus and shut down Weiser for a 31-7 Berks Football League Section 1 victory.
Unterkoefler, running back Nick Sarangoulis, wide receiver Gabe Schappell and the line got back into synch in time to save the evening.
"We analyzed things at halftime and we came out and did our assignments," Unterkoefler said. "And we got into the end zone."
Unterkoefler, who is a double threat as a passer and a runner, rushed for two scores and threw another, a 34-yarder to Schappell near the end of the third quarter that gave Exeter (3-1, 6-2) the lead.
Sarangoulis led all rushers with 137 yards on 16 carries, while Unterkoefler had 119 on 16. Schappell caught one score and rushed for another.
Nick Bentz added a 24-yard field goal to round out the scoring, all of which was in the final 24 minutes.
As the game progressed, the Eagles appeared to stay fresh, while Weiser was starting to lose a step.
"Our uptempo offense has been working for us," Unterkoefler said. "Our conditioning paid off from the summer. We could keep running the ball down their throats."
