Sophomore Alexis Cramer persevered for a three-set victory in singles as Berks and two-time defending District 3-AAA girls tennis team champion Exeter avenged a regular season loss to Hempfield with a 3-2 victory in a district quarterfinal Tuesday afternoon at Hershey Racquet Club.

Cramer defeated Katie Donnell 6-2, 4-6, 6-0 at No. 2 singles to break a 2-2 tie and send the fourth-seeded Eagles (13-2) into a semifinal match today at 3 p.m. at Racquet Club West, Lancaster, against top seed Manheim Township.

Hempfield (16-4) had defeated the Eagles 4-3 on Sept. 8 in a non-league match. Cramer and No. 1 Sammi Snyder won their singles matches in that match. No. 3 Corinne Grohoski lost hers against Emily Staman. Tuesday, Grohoski reversed that with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Staman. Snyder defeated Amanda Hagino again, this time 6-3, 6-1, giving the Eagles their three points.

"Big wins from our top three again as they continue to lead the way for Exeter," said Exeter coach Michael Herman. "Corrine wins in straight sets in a revenge match from earlier this season. Sammi as steady as usual and Alexis pulls out a great victory in style winning a third set 6-0 to seal the victory."
